Articles of Faith: Angels

Belief in Angels is the second article of faith, next only to faith in Allah.

The Angels are not Allah's daughters, as believed by the polytheists.

Worshipping the Angels is considered shirk and is greatly forbidden by Allah the Almighty.

The Angels have no free will

The angels are like robots as they carry out Allah's orders flawlessly without any mistake or thought. They never fail in their duties

The angels do not have any human needs and they don't need to eat or sleep,

The Holy Quran says:

"They fear the lord above them and do what they are commanded"

The angels have no material bodies but can assume any form they like. For example, when Hazrat Jibraeel visited the Prophet(SAW) as a companion, Dihyah Kalbi.

The angels are neither male nor female.

They are arranged in ranks, with their size being based on their rank. The higher the rank, the higher the size.

The angels act as Allah's messengers and descend upon his command

They appeared before Hazrat Zakarriya, Ibrahim, Maryam, Lut, Musa and the Prophet(SAW) and other apostles as messengers.

They strengthen the hearts of believers. They helped Muslims at Badr which lead to a Historic victory for Islam.

They intercede only for those who are acceptable to Allah

The Angels descend to earth on lailatul Qadr by the leave of Allah to carry out commands and his bounties on believers.

The angels have destroyed wicked nations like the nation of Hazrat Lut on Allah's command.

They prostrated before Hazrat Adam on Allah's command when he declared man as Ashraf ul Makrookhat

Angels will accompany righteous believers on their entering Heaven

The Quran says:

And whosoever disbelieves in Allah, his angels, his books, his messengers and the last day, he has gone astray

Prominent Angels:

  1. Hazrat Jibraeel (Head Angel): Brought revelations (wahis) to messengers.

  2. Hazrat Israel: The angel of death (Malak Ul Maut)

  3. Hazrat Israfil: Blower of Trumpet (Sur)

  4. Hazrat Mikael: In charge of the universe and distributing the Rizq

  5. Recording Angels (Respected Recorders): Record every act, no matter what the magnitude, which will be presented before Allah on the day of Judgement

  6. Angel of Grave: Munkar and Nakeer will question the dead in their graves
