Three mountain ranges dominate the north of Pakistan:

Himalayas

Hindu Kush

Karakoram

Himalayas:

The average altitude is 4000 m

The highest peak is 8126 m

Karakoram:

The average Altitude is 6000 m

The highest peak is 8611 m

Hindukush:

The average altitude is 5000 m

The highest peak is 7690 m

Main Physical features:

High mountain peaks

Snow-capped peaks

Rugged Terrain

V-shaped and U shaped valleys

Gorges

Fast-flowing streams and rivers

Rapid waterfalls

Lakes,Corries,Cirques

Glaciers

Scree

Corrie is a lake made due to a melting glacier. Lake saif ul my look is a corrie

Scree are broken rock pieces which are deposited at the foothill of the mountains

A glacier is called a Tongue of Ice

A flat area of land in between mountain ranges is called valleys

Economic activities in northern areas:

Goat and sheep herding is one economic activity. People sell goats or use them as livestock

Farming is another economic activity. The people grow crops which are sold or used by themselves

Fishing is one more economic activity, trout fish is commonly fished and trout farms are made

Hiking is another economic activity, tourists come to hike and local people become tour guides

Mining is another economic activity as local people mine for emeralds and other precious stones

Lumbering is another economic activity in which local people use the wood of trees to create items such as furniture,souvenirs etc
