The Khilafat movement

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

The Khilafat movement was a movement to make sure the Ottoman empire did not suffer any punishment from the British because of their involvement in World War 1

Maulana Shaukat Ali and his brother Maulana Mohammed Ali Johar from the Muslim League along with Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad from Congress lead the conference

The main events were the first conference, the second conference and the Hijrat movement

The Hindus supported the Muslims in the Khilafat movement

The Hindus under the Indian National Congress wanted self-rule

Khilafat movement was for the protection of Turkey and self-rule

The Ottomans suffered a lot even though the British said that they wouldn't

Both Hindus and Muslims couldn't trust the British and Gandhi's idea was accepted:

"No person on earth would not prefer their own bad government to the good government of an alien power."

Now along with the Hindus, the Muslims are demanding self-rule as the British Govt did not keep its promise to Keep Turkey safe

The main aim of the Khilafat movement was self-rule and protection of the Muslims living in Turkey and the Ottoman empire

The movement started as a major protest to protect the Khalifa, the Ottoman Empire, and the people of Turkey

The major aim of the Khilafat movement became self-rule as the British Government did not Protect the Ottoman empire

A conference was set up for the Khilafat movement which Gandhi attended

British goods and jobs were boycotted

The Muslims of the Khilafat movement supported the non-cooperation movement

The Khilafat movement also leads to the Hijrat movement
